Atheen

About

Mythology Music is a project of UK musician Atheen. Although primarily a Jazz/Funk artist, this is home to her collection of instrumental pieces for use in films, documentaries, ballet and more.

Starting out as a ballerina at age 4 gave Atheen an early introduction to Classical music (Tchaikovsky, Delibes) and she expressed an interest in learning the piano at that age. Alas, it was to be another 12 years before she was able to own a keyboard instrument but she hasn’t stopped playing since!

In those intervening years she was influenced by many styles of music, including early Radiophonic Workshop releases (she had Through A Glass Darkly on cassette) and the epic cinematic scores of the 80s (John Williams, James Horner, Alan Silvestri) and Jazz / Funk / Fusion bands and artists (Level 42, Weather Report, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock).

Within the first few years of her career she had created music for a number of radio adverts that won awards locally and her tracks were being picked up by the VHS market due to video home editing equipment becoming more affordable and creating a growing demand for copyright free music.

Her first full album was a collection of Ballet pieces – remembering how dissapointed that she had felt in ballet classes dancing to piano music rather than full orchestral scores, she created a collection of class pieces mainly using orchestral sounds from her Yamaha SY-85 synth but later reworking these using sample libraries.

Another great love is Astronomy and Cosmology (and Sci-Fi), so it was only natural that at some point she would create a collection of space music, incorporating both orchestral samples and electronic sounds.

Future projects include more ballet pieces, documentary collections and some dynamic, cinematic compositions.
